I spotted this in an ad recently and, for what the guy wanted for it, well resistance was futile. I look for 50-60's Craftsman 10" Saws to rebuild. I've done more than a few and they are impressive. Once I got this one home, I did some research. It is actually an 8" that looks an awful lot like a 10" at least in my eyes.
The guy said it quit working so he went and got a new saw. I got it home and reset the thermal overload on the motor and it started up. Score! It is a newer Sears motor that I'll check over thoroughly.
The model tag has a 11-56 stamping in the upper left corner and I did manage to find this saw in the 1956 Sears tool catalog. It does not appear in the 1955 or 1957 catalog. One year only. This one is model 113.27531. I have found very little info on this model. I did find a manual and a few instances of a 113.27530 but this one may have been made late in the year and then discontinued. Oddly enough in 1956 sears offered a total of four 8" saws this one being the best of the bunch.
The saw has all of the features/quality of the larger 10" in fact it has the "Industrial" rating that Sears gave some of its tools.
The only thing different from the 10" is the size. The table top is smaller and the fence is shorter. Fortunately it has the same arbor (5/8") as the 10" offering.
Just a cool little saw.
It is currently tore down and getting new bearings and some adjustments.
I do plan to document this at Vintage Machinery.
I'd be interested in seeing if anyone else has such a machine.
I thought that Power Bronze machines started a few years after 1956. Am I wrong?
