Hey Guys....
Was going thru a box of old pics the other day and came across pics of my very first shop!!

Please excuse the kinda fuzzy images.....they are old Polaroids scanned with a old kerosene fired, pull start, HP combo printer/scanner :lol_hitti

The pictures are circa 1983/85 (?) ....Building is a 8' x 10' Leonard Aluminum storage building I bought new in 1983.

Starting out it was also storage for household items, lawn mowers, etc....but it was a place I could put my tools in and have a place to tinker with mechanical stuff

First 3 pics you can see some ladderback chairs, some boat seats, even an ice chest, But it also has a Workbench

My toolbox is a Craftsman 12 drawer chest and a 5 drawer cabinet combo that was a first year anniversary gift from my new wife, bought in 1979....
(I recently acquired a 1980's Craftsman combo that reminds me very much of my old set... https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=380058)

The name tag is from my old Army dress greens (removed the pin and used double sided tape to adhere it)...

The Snap-on screwdrivers I bought new in 1981/82 for $53 IIRC and about had a heart-attack to think I'd pay that much for screwdrivers :shocking: but I got over it....still have them (actually my oldest son still has them)...

Still have the Craftsman wrenches too....in-fact, I'd be willing to bet I still have at least 98% of all the tools in that box....

The space was small but it was MINE and I've done a ton of work out of it and rebuilt/restored several dirtbikes, and other "toys" in this little space...

Does any one recognize or know what year the Snap-on calendar is?
First Shop9.jpg

The string trimmer is a Green Machine and was the first trimmer I bought when I finally had a yard to keep up.....hard to start and hard on my back cause of the curved shaft and I'm 6'2" :D
First Shop10.jpg

That's all the pics I found of my first shop.....Thanks for looking....I also found some pics of my current shop's build that I built in 1993......
I just need to find time to organize them and feed them in the old kerosene scanner......

Where there is a will there is a way. Years ago, when I was living in Tampa I was acquainted with a young guy who built high performance VW motors in a garden shed like yours. I guess the key to making it work is disciplined approach to keeping the place neat and tidy.

Thanks for the comments......I know this first little shop pales in comparison to the mega shops also posted here.....but it served me well for 10 years until I built my current shop, that is 20' x 28' which is still small compared to the mega shops, ;) but when I made the transition, I felt like I'd moved into a mega shop!!!
Now, my current shop is slam full of tools and equipment (and still adding) that it seems like my first small shop again!

But it's all good.....I'm blessed and fortunate to have what I have....

I love those pics. I don’t think I have ever seen that era snappy screwdrivers in a set. Usually just a one off /at the bottom of a pile.

My dad had a Green Machine and could never get that thing going. He upgraded to a Stihl. I guess that’s where I get it from. Cool pics!

Nice. I don't have any pictures of my first shop as it was merely an enclosure at the front of my parent's carport.

Love seeing the pictures. Thanks for sharing.

The snappy screwdrivers was the 8 pc. set (SDX80 http://www.collectingsnapon.com/catalogs/catalogs.php?loggedin=0&catalogPage=5038 ) came in a cardboard box with plastic insert...

Yep, I've pulled many an hour trying to get that dang trimmer started....I also "up-graded" to a straight shaft Stihl (love the ease of re-loading their bump heads)...
