My Vidmar purchase

Finally bought a box I not looking to sell. Picked up this Vidmar cabinet last night off CL. Thing is built like a tank. Must weigh 700 to 800 lbs. It is 30w x 27d x 61h. It is in decent condition, works fine and will make a good display for tools. It is so heavy that I cannot spin or slide it at all.

I will clean and lube it and line the drawers and put it in my showroom.

I mainly see these in machine shops loaded down with tooling. It is easily made as well as any tool box I've seen. The only thing I don't like is the drawers could be deeper, so if you find one to use as a tool box, take careful note of the drawer configuration. This one will work well for my purpose.

This cabinet apparently sells new for $3k, I got it for $500.

Nice! We use Vidmars exclusively at work. Thay are great for tool/parts storage. And yeah, they are HEAVY!!!

Good find. Looks like a Lista. Just don't pull out that many drawers when it's loaded.

Can't even pull out all the drawers empty. Tried to for pic and it started to tilt forward. The drawers have steel dividers in them that add about 50 lbs per drawer. I'll end up removing many of them.

Many LISTA cabinets have a lock-out fetaure that disallows more than one drawer to be open at a time.

Yours might have this disabled.

Pull out a few contiguous drawers and check the mechanism in the back.

That's, of course, only if you WANT the feature to work - personally, I found it annoying.


And if you find the drawers difficult to move, clean the ball bearings with some brake cleaner and re-lube. The difference is HUGE.
