Although the stand has now been complete for several years, I just took some decent pics of it-----as decent as I can do with a PowerShot and homemade sweep and no photo editing software, anyway. Solid Walnut.

Thanks guys.

I've often thought it would be nice to be able to actually sell stuff like this and make something at it, but unless you build them 'in multiples', it would be hard to get a reasonable price for them. In hindsight, it probably would have been a good idea to just make several at the same time as long as I had machines set up, and hope to sell them. :S

You'd be amazed at how much time you can put into something like this with setting up jigs, fixtures, stops, router bit depths, etc. (mainly the column with the flute spacing, etc.)

Pretty much a 'niche market' too.

lol! Thanks.

Here's a straight razor case I built for a restored 'Hess 44'. The technique is called 'French fitting'. Bottom inside is lined with brown felt. Outside was plain----no pics of that for some reason! :S

Nope. Nope, would not be surprised at all.:lol_hitti

My hairs get noticeably longer during a WW project.

I haven't seen a shaving brush since I left home.
My dad used a straight razor.

I love coming to this site to get great ideas. Now, if I had the time to actually do some of them... That looks great.

Nice job you did on that.
Looks appropriate for the application.

I think you could make some money making and selling them. Sell them for a premium. There is a market that will pay for quality.

Jazz them up with some marble or granite base or top. Consider using Corian for the base and/or top.

Would make a great father's day present for the guy who thought he had everything.

Thanks, all. Good ideas too!

Pricing stuff like this is an awful task! People don't realize how 'fiddly' some work is, unless they are woodworkers themselves. Take the columns, for example-----getting the table and spacers and spacing set up to work out evenly, getting the start/stop blocks set-up, etc. On this particular job, that was the killer. Next time, it would definitely be worth making multiple pieces once everything is set up! To duplicate this stand now would take me almost as long as the original one took.

You're exactly right. As long as I thought they'd sell, the time definitely goes down per item to make multiples! A mini-production run, so-to-speak. I've thought of that and would definitely make multiples of any small project like this in the future.

A lot of people say they are willing to pay for quality, hand-crafted stuff like this but in the end buy it from Ikea or Target.

That's what I've found too. Everyone says, 'Buy American!' , but wants it at import prices :S Don't complain about the American economy if you're buying imports, whether it's cars or razor stands! Besides being much nicer quality and American-made though, this isn't a mass-produced stand. It's my own design, and until someone copies it and starts mass-producing it, it is unique, which is worth something to some people.
