Went to a pawn shop to fill out the missing places in my craftsman 3/8 metric set. I found every one I needed and then some but in the back of the store in an old toolbox I found some neat pieces.

A pebble plomb 5449 1/2" ratchet
A pebble plomb 5249 3/8" ratchet and its younger brother the proto 5429
A pebble 3031 5/8" and 3/4" wrench
1/2" plomb breaker bar
plomb 5426 3/8" drive flat screwdriver bit

The lady behind the counter said she would have to charge me full price for the sockets (50 cents apeice for 5 of them) and the "nice" ratchet (the proto for $3) but that I could have the other junk for $5 combined. I thanked her and handed over the money.

Feeling pleased with that purchase I spotted a yard sale on the way home. I normally don't stop at yard sales, but after seeing what you folks drag home from them I thought I would give one a try.

Neat old tool box for $4

And the 4" craftsman vise was tossed in as a freebie because I bought a few records and a late 50's standard electric precision timer with "Property of Nasa" stickers all over it

Nothing particularly "you ****" worthy but I certainly don't have buyers remorse either.

Nice. I've been looking for an old Craftsman vise and you get one for free?

Yeah, I'd say you ****.

I bought a slightly larger one just yesterday. (And sold it today)

I've become a bit of a vise snob, mostly looking for Parker, Wilton, Prentiss, etc.

I only bought the Craftsman because I knew they had good resale value and figured I could make a few bucks on it if it was restored, but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of those old Craftsmans.
Nice art deco styling too.

Looks like you've got a nice restoration project there...

Already spruced up the vise. Media blasted, cleaned up, powdercoated, lubed and reassembled this afternoon.

I like it a lot. I didn't even notice the cool atomic age styling until it was clean. I was tempted to two tone it, but then I remembered it was a vise and will get beaten on. It will find a permanent home on one of my workbenches.
