My Welding Table

I wanted something big that would last me a long time so I went and bought some 3X3X3/16 square tubing. This will be my do-all welding, fab, fixing, whatever table.





The other square tubing is for my TIG cart that im building the weekend for my dynasty.

After lots of cutting with my little delta bandsaw. I need to build a stand for that to, the one it was on when I bought it was trashed.





Then some welding with the millermatic 252, what a great machine!




That was it for monday, tonight I made some gussets for the legs. The bandsaw couldnt get to a 45* with that size tubing so out came the plasma cutter. I made this little jig for the cuts and it went pretty smooth.





Welded them up and added some braces for the top.





All done for tonight, im going to add a few more things tomorrow and get it painted up. The plate should be here thursday.

Im going to bolt the top on with countersunk screws and use shims to make it perfectly level.

How are you drilling the top. That was what I wanted to do but I didn't want to pay a shop to do it, and my equipment wouldn't handle it. I thought of renting a mag drill, but at the end I just tacked it in place. My top was an old fixture table that a local shop was going to scrap, a friend salvaged it and gave it to me. I had a minimal amount invested into the build since it was primarily scrap. Had I purchased the materials I may have been more inclined to invest more into the tops connectivity.

What thickness/type have you chosen for the top?

I do need some ball peen hammers lol, that was used along with a 2x4 to pop off a tack weld. I got the table primed and painted but didn't have time to post last night. I'm picking up the plate today after work so tonight il get it squared up and hopefully get the holes drilled. I'm just going to use my dewalt 20v cordless drill, nice and slow with lots of cutting oil. If that dosent work I'll figure something else out.
I should be able to post pics tonight of the finished table.

For my table I use 2 inch with 3/16 wall for the legs. Then, I cut a 1.5 inch hole in my top just above the leg. (did it on all six in my case). I then drilled 29/64 holes on two sides of the 2 inch about 3 inches down and tapped them for 1/2 inch fine thread bolts. You could add a weld nut if you are worried about stripping. Now you have a receiver setup. You cut 1.5 inch square tubing about 6 inches and weld a plate to it that you can bolt a vise, anvil, bench grinder, porta-band, shear, the list goes on and on. With everything on these receivers, you can build stands, other tables, etc with these same holes. Make sense? Works great for me!

I decided to keep the table as simple as possible so I could weld anywhere on it without working around a bunch of clamps and **** so I decided to keep it like it is for now, I do plan on adding the hitch tubing but I cant decide how yet so I will work on that another time.

Primed it and painted it blue to match everything else in my shop.





I called it a night and let the paint dry, went inside and threw my yellow Hobart mig gloves in the washer, they came out like this



But the new headgear for my digital elite came, when I got the helmet the head gear was broken and wouldnt stay on the helmet so they shipped me out some new ones no questions asked. Cyberweld is the ****!



Back to the project, picked up the 3/8" plate today.



They loaded it with a forklift but I dont have that luxury at home so I used a pipe to roll it out of my bed and right on to the table, all 490lbs of it.





Came out very close to being perfectly level but needs a little bit of tweaking. I cant find the hardware I need locally so I will probably have to order it online.

I cleaned up the top a little bit and pulled out the dynasty, I got it last friday but havent been able to weld with it because they sent me a dinse connector for a 150a torch and im using a 200a CK torch so I had to order a new one, that should be here tomorrow. I cant wait to fire this thing up, it makes some crazy *** noises just idling lol.





Thats all for now, ill update this thread with some pics this weekend of how the table works out and of my new tig cart.

For those looking to drill the top, you can just use a cheap tabletop drill press and flip the base around and clamp it.

What's with the wings on that helmet? I have enough trouble getting my helmet in tight places. is there an advantage I don't see?

That's just how the didgital elites are, I haven't had any problems with it.
Maybe try getting some magnified lenses and moving your helmet back a little bit?

Thanks for the kind words, I figure if its something worth doing, it's worth doing right.
Plus it's something that's going to be there for a very long time so why not make it look as good as it possibly can.
The finished table came out to about 815lbs!
I'm in Ocala, for now lol, I'm probably going to re-locate soon.

They are 3' tall, I'm 6,3" and it seems to be a good height for me.

First off, really dig the setup you have. I dream of having the same two machines you have some day, when I can save enough pennies to do so. Both top notch!! That table is awesome as well. Talk about room to work on.

I'm actually more curious about the Delta saw in this picture. Do you have any more information on it? I did a quick Google search and didn't come up with much. I like the look of it, from what I can tell.

It appears to be very similar to any of the 4.5"x6" Rong Fu bandsaws that are sold under many different brands.

Nice looking table. Something to consider is adding receiver hitch tubes under the sides. I do this to mount a vise, tube notcher, bead roller, jigs that overhang the table, and so on.
