My Wife Thinks I'm Nuts

Hi All,

Lurking on the site for the last month or so has inspired me to fix up my little two car garage.

We've been in the same house for 19 years and at one time, my garage looked pretty good. Sadly, the last ten years or so have no been so kind and the place is in dire need of some sprucing up.

I first sold the wife on the idea by saying "You know, honey...we've redone every room in the house except the garage. If we showed it some love, the peeling ceiling paint flakes would not get tracked into the house.

She said "That's a wonderful idea" and then I said, "You know, the paint is in pretty bad shape all around. Maybe I ought to just paint the whole place...you know, while I have the bucket out. Then maybe reorganize some stuff and do something about the floor", and she agreed. Can you say "Green Light" ;)

The place has some potential - I can get both vehicles inside:

I also have lots of cabinets, although they really are not in the best position for my needs and need to be rearranged:

I have a workbench area that sadly has become a repository for my junk:

I want to move the cabinets around, add some workbench area, get some better organization, repaint, and do something with the fifteen year old fubar'd epoxy floor (that's another tale).

We scraped the ceiling clean last weekend and I have been assured by the family that this weekend - with no other commitments - is mine to work on the garage. Wish me luck.

Thanks for reading.

Sounds like a normal relationship to me. It's almost like a right of passage. Like step one: wife convinced that husband is nuts---BINGO

Welcome to GJ, Ocho. Congrats on the Green Light Special! Great logic in dropping the idea. Getting her to understand you are nuts was the first hurdle. Now, anything you propose will be realistic. Show her some pictures of some of the finished garages here and she will probably jump in with ideas of her own. I've offered to help the family out by allowing a spare full size refigerator in the garage for times when the side-by-side just doesn't work. The rest of the time, its a beverage cooler for me!

Good Luck on your project. Looking forward to see the progress.
