I have tried to give my wife a tour of my new tool set I have built (and still am building). Her response was basically "no way in hell".

What do I do?? :headscrat

Are you deeply in debt, making $8.00 an hour and just decided to start a tool buying hobby? If so, maybe she has a point.

If not maybe she's nuts ;)

My wife will look at something in the garage but I know she's just humoring me. I'll take it though. But she will become sincere when I save us the cost of a repairman visit on something like an appliance or house wear & tear.

My wife doesn't know what I have, or what I buy. I bought her a decent top & bottom box, filled it with decent tools.......that are HERS......so she uses them and leaves me and mine alone.

Use yours to save $$$ around the house and she will come to love them as much as you do!

As far as I can tell, my wife has an amazing and intricately developed virtual farm made with something she does on Facebook.

I don't want a tour of her farm. I'm not sure why she enjoys 'working' on it, but that's her business.

John's point is very valid.
Take care of the wife first, unless she really is nuts. If so, tools ain't going to help.
Cheers,

When I first got married my bride did not like me working on the cars. I had a modest toolbox and explained to her that I had done much of this work before on different types of cars. I used to charge a significant amount of money for it. So I was actually saving us money that we could spend on other things that we wanted.

She didn't believe me.

She took HER car to the shop for new brake shoes and paid them a significant amount of money.

I changed my own brakes on MY car and told her to write me a check for it so I could go buy some beer and chips for a party with my mechanic buddies.

She got the point.

Now not only does she not ask about my tool habit but on Father's day she added a new compressor. Of course she also gets to add her projects onto the list from time-to-time so I don't argue. I just tell her what new tools I need to do the project.

...and I can usually get her to help with her projects.

My wife lets me buy all the tools I want to.

That's because she knows you trade your tools for new shoes and purses!!!

My woman can't understand the tools thing, even when it saves her tons of money. She doesn't understand why I pay 20 bucks for a good oil filter and good oil when the local quick lube will do it for 19.95 and fill all the rest of the fluids. Even after they broke an O2 sensor changing the oil. She doesn't get the cost savings when I replaced the hot water heater, fixed the furnace, re did the bathroom, did a trans flush, tune up, replaced a broken window in the house, the list goes on. Unless she had a bill for everything in her hand she doesn't see the savings, and even if she did have a bill I don't know that she would understand. But I keep buying and saving us money, and she keeps buying her "stuff" that I don't understand and in the end things work out. I don't question why there are a dozen purses hangin on the coat hooks and she doesn't ask to many questions about the garage. Her car and our house is taken care of so it all works out in the end.

I basically keep my mouth shut about my tools and tool purchases. I keep my bills/ paperwork private as well. If I talk about tools it usually ends up in being a fight or a do you really need what you bought talk. As far as She's concerned Matco and SO are the devil... :Violent:

mine sometimes encourages me to buy tools that help with herplanned projects around the house. every winter we try to upgrade/renovate one room or part of the house.

she bought me a tablesaw for my last b-day. and told me "if it will make it easier & faster" to go ahead and get a small compressor and nail guns.

she rally has no idea the amount (cost) of tools that are in my service truck, and i discuss any garage tool purchase over $50 with her, mainly just to make sure we have cash available,
i stopped using credit cards 10 years ago, cash or debit card only for me.

my wife comes out to the garage from time to time, opens a drawer or 2 of the toolbox to see if I've added much to the lot and doesn't say a lot about it. It must not upset her too much as if it did, I'd be the first to know. She does pick me up a little sumthin sumthin from the SO truck every now and again for special occasions so maybe she's just looking to see what I have so she doesn't get me duplicates.
in any case, I'm not complaining!

Maybe it's a good thing she doesn't care and I really shouldn't try to show her.

It's all in good fun though.

Mine states I am ADDICTED to tools. I laugh at her and think to myself "I can stop when ever I want to, I use the tools I buy at one point or another, I am not in debt from tools, and they save me quite a bit of money" LOL:rocker:

What your wife doesn't know won't kill you.

I just try not to get too excited when some new tools show up and to get rid of the packaging asap.

My wife gets annoyed when I buy tools, so I don't tell her. She always is telling me to go make her something. But I am usually to tired to go out and start a project. I tell her all the time I use my tools all day at work. She just doesn't get it. I tell her all the time would you rather have me spend money on booze at a bar or a tool? That usually ends the argument.

Complains how I have 3 of the same size ratchet, duplicates of sockets, and more wrenches than "I need". OTOH she forced 2 boxes of nitrile gloves into my hands the last time she deigned to enter Harbor Freight with me. She knows it saves her money and time when I maintain the cars instead of paying a garage to do the same job, and that my job will often be far more thorough.

This coming from the guy who bought her tires for Valentine's Day, and she appreciated it. She's a keeper, even if she complains on occasion.

My Wife knows how much money those tools have brought us over the years. She has a good idea how much they have saved us as well. I never bought a tool on credit and if something was needed she understood why and agreed before it was purchased.

My tool allowance comes from the tools I sell with PayPal and I try to buy from companies that take PayPal. My wife doesn’t ask what the items cost or have an interest in my collection.

My wife is very understanding since they are needed for my career. I have been talking about buying a solus pro and she told me I should just go ahead and buy it. I have spent close to $6000 this year and she is ok with me buying some every week.

My wife knows I have a lot of tools but no issue with it. She's not interested in looking at wrenches or pliers so I don't try to show her. I'm not interested in watching those wedding shows on tv so she doesn't ask me to watch them.

Ya mean like Bridezilla?
I never saw it, I don't even have cable, but it cracked me up when the woman at work mentioned it.

Can't say i'm married, but the GF, been with for 2 years, she knows i need tools for work. She swings by the shop from time to time to bring me lunch or something she will ask what i've got since the last time she was here. She tries to take an interest, even if its just to humor me, i appreciate the effort.
i do talk to her when i'm going to make a significant purchase. She helped me alot handle my money better and i do appreciate everything she did for me. If it wasnt for her id still be living paycheck to paycheck eatting ramen and blowing money on anything i could instead of paying my bills.

She knows i'm better off buying a quality tool once then several mediocore tools. Not to mention i fix her car and save her tons of money.

I think she's a keeper.

My wife got real mad at me when i bought some tools one time . I told her " see your new high heels " that rusty 15/16 wrench paid for that . That dinner we just ate, that screwdriver paid for it . No tools = no money , she got the point .

I have a permanent house guest who worked at a saw mill in Wyoming a couple of decades ago. Worked with "the boys" in the mill, not in the office. There's no pulling the wool over her eyes when it comes to tools.
