I've had this drill press for close to 20 years, but never had a spot for it.

Now that I have the space, I thought that I might try to get it running.

Would anyone know where to look for a model? I can't seem to find that info. (Not that it's very important, but I would like to know.)

It was made in Rockford, IL., and is a "Barnes" brand.
There's one on Ebay right now, that's as close as anything else I can find.

If I remember correctly, the drill weighs nearly 3000 lbs. I did run it across the scales, but as I said, that was almost 20 years ago.

When I got it, there was a 3 phase "Allis Chalmers" 3 hp. electric motor on it. I probably should have kept that, but scrapped it years ago.

I do have a fresh 3 hp., single phase motor to go on it, and plan on using the "silent chain" that was on it when I got the drill.

Everything appears to be intact, so I'm hoping that I can get the motor mounted, and see if it will turn. At least I did have it indoors, so rust isn't an issue.

There is a liquid pump, chain driven, mounted on the back, that pumps coolant from the base, up to the drill bit. Would anyone have an idea of what would have been used for the coolant?

I'm thinking that this project may just be the deciding factor to get that blast cabinet that I've always wanted!!! Lots of small parts that will need cleaning. I washed on it when I brought it home, and worked on it again, with the "Hotsy," before I carried it in the shop. Somewhere along the line, it had been painted orange, but most of that came off fairly easy. I'm thinking "machinery gray" would be an acceptable color.

On the coolant, back then it probably soluble oil that after a week or so would turn rancid and smell really bad.... don't ask! That has been replaced in today's modern manufacturing with synthetic coolant.
