My wiring finally trenched in!

OK- For the first time in my life I had some wiring trenched in, yesterday. They had to run 150 feet of 200amp wire (whatever that would be) from the power box to my garage.

Question- Does ALL the dirt really settle back down/flat that is now where they dug? It is about 9-12" high about the whole 150 feet.............I knew this would happen but it SURE seems like a lot of dirt to settle.

If all the added to the trench is a conduit with wire in it, or some direct-bury wire, then yes, it should compact and settle . . . eventually.
If you skim off the high part, you'll end up with a low spot when it settles.
To hasten it, you can use a tamper or a "jumping jack" type plate compacter.

A more redneck way is to just drive your car/truck down on top of it....I used a tractor. It works fine until you hit a really soft spot. Though this post is meant as a joke, it works in the right situations.

Yes, eventually the dirt will settle. More than likely, you will have to add soil in some spots to fill dropouts. Weird though considering you are looking at a mound of dirt right now.

An effective way to fill AND pack the dirt in the trench is to fill the trench approx. 3/4 full of the dirt.....fill the trench with water......more water.....more water.....then put the rest of the dirt on top and it will go back to the original state. just packing it dry will not be effective.

When I ran my gas, hydro, communication wire, sewer line in a 3'X3' trench this summer.....look at it now and you would never know that it was dug out.
