Hole shot, I really think you have a calling to be a cabinet maker, for your first try that looks great. I am impressed (like that really means anything to you) but I really am. That will be something that you will enjoy for years.

looks good, i like it alot. i see older wood machinist boxes always seem to have mirrors under the lid--any plans to mimic this trait.

Holeshot, I like the guitar! I use to play a lot before the accident. I have always wanted a solid body electric, my Dad gave me his Harmony Hollywood Oscar addition "F" hole acustic/electric. Nice wood work!

Thanks, JASTECH

Could you give us a breakdown of the $1600? I can't figure out how it got that high. Box turned out great. Look forward to seeing the staining and clear coat.

The top is the only part that I am not sure of. It seems like it is too thin to me, but then again I would use/design it as a bench. (something like the stainless or butcher block tops that Craftsman club sells as an example).

Otherwise, I reserve judgement, until you post more pics with the drawers open.

I put the rest of the staian on it last night and this morning. My son came over and cut some drawer liners for it out of some material from lowes. I want to do the felt but isn't in the budget right now. Will be putting on the semi-gloss poly on tommorow. Liners havent settled yet. I may start loading tools by the weekend.

I won't be using it for a workbench. Thats just a lid somewhat like a tool cart

Don''t know your climate, but you heav mentioned rain. Don't be in a hurry about putting in the tools. even with poly... waiting a few days/weeks to allow dry/cure will make a load of difference down the road. Stickey finish and all. Thanks for posting, I enjoyed this thread. I would like to see the arrangements of tools in the box, now that you are finished.

I have not yet seen, to my satisfaction, a machinists tool box with tools arranged. I know I am talking to your audience, not you.

Dave.

Thanks for the compliments. I started putting tools in it today. I'll put the poly on the weekend. I'm tired of my stuff in cardboard boxes, lol

Wow that is a wonderful piece of art. Great job. I will attempt building a wood box one day far away from now.

Bravo MRHOLESHOT, you have done a fine job, you should be proud, i am.
I love reading your post's daily and watching the progress. Being that this was your first wood project, i am going to go out on a limb and say you were one hell of a mechanic before you retired. When you do something, you do it right, and the way that you want to do it. Cheers to you and thank you for sharing this experience with us.
From some random guy with the handle of blue dog in Los Angeles.
