so for awhile now i've been wanting a heavy work bench like i grew up using in my grandfathers basement.i have a 4x8 and a 2x8 roll around that i've used for years, but wanted something more permanant and tied to the wall.and the main thing that finally put a fire under my *** was the yost holland vice i restored,it needs to be mounted to something secure.

so after a little regrouping of the shop,i've decided that it will go to the right of the shop door,be tied to the 6x6's and be roughly 30''x 10'.the post's will be 6x6 treated, the framing will be build out of 2x8,and the top will be made out of 2x12.later on i will probably skin the top with either plywood,or if money permits,it will get 1/4 plate.

heres some beginning pics of the post's cut,and where it will be going.

It suprises me that you don't have an attached bench in there yet. Add some drawers and shelves - you can never have enough storage. I'd even build some shelves and drawers under your rollers. I have and it makes for a great tool garage...

so i took some time today and started assembaly.with everything cut and notched, everything got a fat glob of liquid nail, then bolted up with 3/8x8 carridge bolts.i used 8'' wich are kind of long, but i had um instock.

then i started to cut, mark and predrill the material that will make up the interior framing.

finished up framing and started the top.still have to glue and screw the top but not till tomorrow or sunday.i left some over hang up front, about 1''.but i want a little more,so tomorrow i'm going to pick up a 12ft 2x6 and make a backsplash with it.this will push me foward an inch and a half.this way i can run two bolts through the top for the vise, one will be lagged into the top of the 6x6.also i'm going to bullnose the front edge with the router before the screw down.then i can build a shelf off the top of the splash, wich will be very usefull.
