Hey, when you talk to pa you gotta put him in a positive mood. No time to process request to his brain. So, say, can I start building my shop on saturday or would sunday be better. hopefully he'll skip brain process and just decide on either saturday or sunday and won't say , WHAT ? it's worth a try.

this really is a classic thread. It's the age old arguement of dad vs. sons tools/work space. Most men have probably gone through some aspect of this dilema right here. There really isn't any right answer or solution to this problem. sometimes father and son just clash about certain things.

So true. This is the classic power struggle between father and son. Some of us are rooting for you, RalloZ35! I've been there, done that and got the tshirt. Now I'm older and can talk to my father. Heck, he came to visit recently and we enjoyed a beer together in my workshop. It will get better in time. Meanwhile, to claim your own workspace, you just have to sell the idea to your dad. Show him you are serious, come up with a list of work/projects that require some workspace. Maybe even show how you can make a few bucks with your own workspace.

If you dad won't let you use his machines, ask him if its a safety concern. You could offer to take a shop safety course at the local community college.

And get some tires on your truck. That IS a safety concern!

here is my suggestion.

deal with it or move to the shed. Don't spend a ton of money though.

SAVE until you are 18. Then go rent a house with a garage or save/deal with it a little longer (21ish) and buy yourself a house.

Don't dump Thousands of $ into concrete in the machine shed cause trust me you are gonna move and wish you had that money to buy a house or do things to the house you buy.

Yea, Ive figured out that if I move the the shed I will put up foil faces foam covered by 1/2 plywood, So it shouldnt cost a ton but, last night I found som mice so were getting rid of a wooden chest where they live, and putting in a shelf! SO there will be more room in there! :)

Show Dad your abilities by fixing or building something for him. Build him a shelf or two and organize his tools on a pegboard. Build him a pair of paper towel holders; one for white and one for blue. Do it and present it as a surprise gift. If he still doesn’t see that you are serious and have shop related interests, then just bide your time and save your $$ until you can move on. If he chastises you for initiative and trying to be helpful – well then you Dad is just a *****…and I could write a book on that subject.

OK then, How 'bout a Root Beer

I have an 8x10 shed, I have a 6' metal workbench with a vice, a mig, tig, chopsaw, bandsaw, motgomery ward 10"x5' metal lathe, benchtop drill press, bench grinder and a lot of tools. when I'm not in there I keep my bike in it. I currently have an apartment so its the best I could fit in my little yard (I was lucky to get a yard). I have been here for 3 years but I'll be closing on a new house soon enough.

Cool.

Looks like you need a shelf just for boots! My shop mottos are: "off the floor or out the door", and "casters are your friend". I violate my own rules from time to time but all-in-all shelves and casters sure make it easier to keep clean.

So...show us a few project you're working on.

Came home, with a bent bumper and a rough idle.

New bumper. Once it warmed up I changed the oil, and fixed rough idle.
