Hello Garage Journal.
I've finally committed to dedicating some time to get my home shop in order. At one time I had a pretty well set up woodshop in there. Mostly my field install setup, but over time my shop equipment eventually migrated to my real shop and the home shop like so many others, became a family junk drawer.
No more. After stumbling across this forum researching a vintage toolbox, I thought it about time to finally dial in my shop and share some of what I do here to help pay back some of the great ideas I've received.
This shop has to serve a few purposes so I've spent a little time thinking it through and moving stuff around, which means I've sketched a lot of stuff.
I think I've finally fit all my wants into the space I have allowed for it. Being the last true refuge of man in my home, it is my sanctuary so it must be organized and comfortable. Having very limited time to work on personal projects, it also has to be organized to be efficient. I want to get in the shop and go right to work. Not have to move this or that and this over here to over there to make room to build something. I want to get right after whatever it is I'm in there doing. That means I have to have some dedicated storage for toys that are stored in there that won't need to be moved or removed in order to work.
It has to be compartmentalized to accommodate several passions in a single space. And last but not least (quite possible first) it has to be cool. It is after all my personal space where I will spend my free time alone and with friends and will serve as somewhat of a calling card as I am in the design and fabrication side of the construction industry.
And so it begins. Here's the mess I'm currently dealing with.
