MyQ opener question difference between top two opener models?

I've decided I need to replace my 'builder' chain drive openers with new units, something quiet (kid's room is right above garage!) and I have Z-Wave in my home so I want to get something where I can monitor if the door is left open.

Chamberlain has two top models - HD930EV and HD950WF, and Liftmaster has two top models - 8550 and 8550W. The W models say they includes WiFi. They all mention MyQ. What's the difference here?

And is the Chamberlain and Liftmaster the same unit?

Thanks for your help.

I believe they are made by the same company. I have three My Q openers and I needed to purchase a "gateway" so I could operate / see door position on all of them from my phone. Gateway cost about $30 and it is all wireless between the units. I can review / open / close from anywhere.

It send me a text every time it opens / closes and on one occasion, I called my buddy to drive down and check out why it opened while I was at work. Forgot my wife called me and said they lost power to their company and let them all go home early.

I'm not sure what model they are, but two of them were installed in December and the other one probably 1.5 years ago - that one came from Menards. The are normal center mounted.

Thanks - they're the same company, Liftmaster is "professional installation only" and Chamberlain is DIY.

I'm familiar with the system, just not sure what the difference in these models is. Thanks.

I installed both the Chamberlain and a Lift-master 8500 that attaches to the shaft. Both are easy to install, but the lift-master 8500 is quieter. The MyQ works great once setup, but as others noted you have to have the gateway. I bought the Chamberlain unit that had the gateway in the box, otherwise you have to buy it separate. The lift-master just got added to the same gateway.

Thanks - I'm sold on MyQ. I was trying to figure out the difference between the four models I listed, but I think I found my answers online. The W models include the gateway built-in so it's not an additional accessory to buy and install. And the Chamberlain models are 1 1/4 hp AC models while the Liftmaster (more $$) are much less powerful 900 Newton DC models. which is equivalent to about 0.8 hp.

Forget about the "HP" ratings of the units. The DC drive units are smoother and quieter than the AC, and also include the superior one piece rails. You can't go wrong with an 8550.

I have three 8500's. Can't imagine buying anything else! I have the MyQ gateway, several of the wall switches, keychain remote and a total of six of the ceiling lights. It's all great stuff. Works well. I get text alerts when doors are opened.

I have the MyQ equipped garage door openers with the gateway. I also have a z-wave HA system (Vera 3). Based on information when I configured everything, there is currently not an API that Chamberlin has released that will allow 3rd party applications to control their system. The system as it stands on it's own is nice. Does all of the things I wanted to be able to do including alters to my phones when the door was left open and being able to close the doors remotely.

I just purchased and finished an install today for a new Sears Craftsman unit - belt drive and battery backup which as AssureLink. ( only one model has all those features ) If you call customer service - you get Chamberlin. $ 250.00 was a smoking deal to me, as it's 3/4 HP and I can tell you - it's crazy quiet. Much more quiet than the past belt drive 1/2 HP Craftsman I had since 2009. I upgraded to gain a new battery back up ( replacement battery was $ 60 ? and I had sensors what were jacked up. I'm completely impressed with the low noise. the App to confirm door / up or down is really cool as well.
