OK so I have been wanting to buy another portable engine drive air compressor from my local Tractor Supply store but unfortunately they never have them in stock. SO I went ahead and had them order me one last week...it came in today... They had it advertised in the in store Blue Book catalog as looking like this.....

with a 14 hp kohler splash lube engine and pull/electric start....

THAT is what I wanted, but I go in there today and they un-crate THIS instead....

I said not a chance, that is not what I ordered I want a refund... I have two of them right now and on both of em the oil pumps on the engine have failed under 500 hours and outside of warranty...the low pressure switch is useless to prevent their demise... Anyway, What is weird about the whole deal is their huge in-store display has the first one pictured and described as well as the 2011 Blue Book catalog, they have the same SKU number and all that....Tractor Supply and their false advertising......wtf.... Anybody know what the deal is? Is that top picture a new model and they just don't sell them yet? Or what?

Don't know how or if I can be of any assistance.. but here goes.
I can't begin to ID the engine on the top unit, but the bottom unit is equiped with a Kohler Magnum engine. they come with 12 HP engines. (I've got an oldie with a 10HP unit here)

I picked up mine surplus from the Railroad I worked for, it's been used and abused since 1986 without a rebuild. Only problems I've encounterd have been a failure of the plastic fuel pump, and the rattling off of the plastic fuel tank and air cleaner cover.

all and all not bad buy for 60 bucks delivered to the house, even included a heavy duty hose reel with 50" of 1/2 inch hose and a 3/4" IR impact wrench!

The older Kohler Magnum and Command OHV engine is an older proven design, I've never had any issues with them. The newer one pictured in the upper photo is a China-built Honda clone, despite having the Kohler name on it. I will say that most similar engines I've dealt with lately have been pretty decent and mostly reliable.

Thanks for the insight.
