Bought a couple of boxes at a local auction and this torch wa inside. Never seen one quite like it. I think it is pretty old as all the names/numbers are worn off. Anyone with idea of what is the purpose of the funnel?

It's use for spray coating metal objects such as shaft ends etc. Different grades/ compositions of fine powder alloys like nickel and tungsten are poured into the funnel, the object is heated till cherry red, you press the lever and spray coat away.

Mud is correct. Older flame spray torch. Look up thermal spray process.
