Nobody on the Craftsman FB group had ever seen one of these, but it just ended on eBay. Can't find it in the 1947-1959 catalogs either. Anybody ever seen one like it, or have any idea if it was a corded tool accessory or just a specialty type tool box?

This thing is a true stump the chump piece. The first thing that popped into my mind when I saw the listing was the Crown box from the 60s that was partitioned off to hold an oxy/acetylene set. I can't see a gas set going in this Heritage box but I can't think of a power tool that'd go in it either. The half circle cut outs in one segment (circled) are a clue but I'll be damned if I know what they point to. Not sure if the white piece of sheet metal with the four cut outs in it is original to the box or something a PO threw in there. The oval cut out in the divider circled in the second pic is another clue.

Nice artifact.

Good eyes! Never noticed the dedicated hole on the left side. I think that settles that it was definitely intended to hold something specific. I'll have to dig back through the catalogs and see if I find anything that makes sense, especially something that might mention an optional (unpictured) carrying case.

Seems like it might have been for an old "rotary" tool set (Craftsman version of a Dremel) Those came with a lot of attachments. It is completely different box than the "long C" version, but maybe the box changed because the tool itself changed. EDIT - I can't seem to load a picture, but the electric hand grinder from 1952 seems closest.

Kinda bit for a Dremel size tool, but maybe a Foredom sized tool kit makes sense. A small Sawsall type tool maybe?
