I picked up this old ratcheting floor jack at a yard sale. It works- sort of. It goes up, but I can't figure out how you lower it. I also wonder if anyone recognized the brand. There's a spot near where the handle goes in that appeared to have had an oval label riveted there at one time. Color is typical red. It's about 27" long, and raises 18".

My Father inlaw has one that is similar. you turn the handle one way to go up and the other way to pump it down.

No, nothing in the hole to release it. It does have a mechanism to release it. There is a spring-loaded linkage attached to a gear near the handle, but nothing is there to actuate it. If you take a screwdriver and pry the linkage the right way, it will release and come down- all at once. When I'm really bored some day I'll spend more time trying to figure it out. I'll probably never use it anyway. I'll just clean it up and park it next to my Simplex RR jack, which also never gets used.
