Picked this up off CL the other day.
PO said it came with a Lathe and had no idea what it was...
Front face had a round plate that I believe rotates, as it has a hand knob and dowl. Face has a line scribed on it.
Center mounting has multiple tapers and heavy duty threaded handwheel..

Was gonna use it, mod it, but before I did, want to know what it was originally for!

I'd say you have a job specific jig for machining a particular piece in a manufacturing setting. I'd say hack it into what ever suits your needs.

It maybe so Larry.
Darn thing weighs about 70lb!
I dont think I will "Hack" it apart, but I might try to "Hack" it into a simple 90 deg indexing table somehow, as I dont have one.

I would hate to mod it and find out it was a rare and sought after piece for some lathe or mill!

Well my opinion is worth what you paid for it. I've not seen all the machine accessories in the world and have used/made a few jigs or tooling plates for special jobs. Most machine accessories are castings and not weldments so that is what I'm basing my opinion on.

I hope you've found the holy grail and prove me wrong...

good luck
