I bought this at a yard sale yesterday because it looked cool, it was cheap, and I don't know what it's for.
It obviously is a pin spanner, so I know that much. Does anyone know what specific purpose it was made for? Is it automotive, plumbing, machinist, machine specific? There are no markings on it whatsoever.

Cool find! Whatever it was meant to turn, I am postulating that it was meant to turn it quickly, hence the knob. Not sure about that arm. Might be for valve grinding/lapping, although I have never seen a design like that, and it seems like overkill.

I forgot to mention, the knob swivels. So, the way I see it working is using the handle to turn it and pushing down on the knob to keep the pins from camming out of the holes.

Edit: I thought I have a Vlchek version of this tool.

But it is a Walden Worcester #3, image is on Google.

It is for grinding valves on a Model T engine.

The Vlchek tool I have is the valve Spring compressor for the Model T.

Thanks guys. I have been searching google images and so far I haven't found a picture of that tool. However, in my searching, I see that Ford Model T engine valves do have two "holes" in them. Model T valve lapping tool is looking likely.

humber2, could you post a picture of your Vlchek version in this thread? Thanks

Here is a picture (that I borrowed from Google) of a Model T engine cutaway showing the holes in the valves that I mentioned.

Those are both cool as hell, knob or no knob. Now I want to find one! :)

I ran into a mess of modified tools in a box I was pawing through at the flea market this morning. (Ignore the wrench, which I snapped for a different thread...) That screwdriver with an attachment welded to the end of the tip is a valve lapper. You just roll the handle back and forth in the palms of your hands like you're a Boy Scout trying to earn a merit badge by starting a fire with two ticks and friction.
