I have had this socket for a while. It came with a bunch of stuff from a retired heavy equipment mechanic. It seems pretty complex for what it does.

The small hex measures .551"/14mm, the large hex measures 1.224"/31mm, the large diameter is 1.752"/44.46mm, and the turned-down diameter is 1.444"/36.67mm. the internal hex is full depth, and measures .975"/24.76mm. The overall height is 4.163"/105.76mm.

The dimensions lead me to believe it is for a metric application. The only external surface that shows machining marks is the small diameter on the opening end. The other surfaces have a good finish, but don't look ground or polished. It seems to be very well made. There are no markings on it at all. There is some surface rust from improper storage.

Maybe a air brake slack adjuster socket if the hex is 9/16 inch the collar would push down the lock ring. Also maybe a clutch adjuster. I have never seen one in 40 years of working on heavy trucks or equipment.

The internal hex is almost an inch (0.975) so it isn't for slack adjusters.

The idea of pushing down the lock ring, with a collar to keep from going too deep, is a great idea! You should apply for a patent!
