hard to see in the pic, but there is a little point on the top and bottom of the jaws, they are the size of 7" vise grips

my guess is they are locking pliers that have been modified for a specific purpose.

they look purpose made, not custom, i was on the crimper line too, almost like hydro, a/c line type crimp, but with pliers? small side approx. 3/8 larger 7/16?

Picked these gems up at a yard sale a while back, too cool to pass up, but to be honest I do not know their intended purpose....any one have an idea?
The pliers are for crimping new brass ferulles on torch or air hose. I have sever pair we use when we istall new ends.

They usually come in a box with brass fittings and ferrells for welding hose repair. The two sizes are for the small hose like on a turbo torch and the larger size is for the 1/4 inch fittings on the full size torch hoses. I have two sets and they really come in handy. The smaller size also fits a/c manifold hoses to repair them. The problem is that if the hose has gotten too much age on it, it will still leak somewhere else. I used them to shorten the 12 foot hose on the turbo torch to about 4 feet that would reach what I needed to reach on refigeration repair.

Looks like a pair of vice-grips that came in a hose repair kit for oxy-acetaline hoses.
