Mystery Tool ID - Depth Gauge?

Found this during a garage cleanup and I can't quite place it. It's marked from 0" to 5" at 1/2" intervals so I'm guessing it's some sort of depth gauge, but for the life of me, I can't recall what.

Given the kink in the end, it reminds me of what comes with power tools like jigsaws and such...

Looks like a depth gauge for a corded hammer drill. We had a cheap HF hammer drill at my old work that came with a rod like that.
