I posted this on the Vintage Tool section, but haven't gotten the specific feedback need to make me confident how this thing works. I think this may be an early form of a machinist or woodworking square. Am I right? The two knobs on the front unscrew and the round face lifts up enough for a machinist ruler to fit through and stick straight up, it does not rotate. The two feet on the bottom will prevent this tool from resting it flat against something if it is on its back. What is the purpose of this type of design compared to the modern machinist square? I have only found one on a search engine, and the poster did not know what it was used for.
