Thanks for the add!

I picked up a nice vintage pipe wrench (CRUSADER * 10) at am estate sale today! I can't find any information on this tool, let alone another CRUSADER pipe wrench?

Thanks in advance!

Zane

I don't know anything about Crusader tools, but I would be suspect of no USA markings. Aside from that, it is a Stillson-pattern pipe wrench and looks like it has good teeth. I vote use it!

Dave,
I found a little info about a company who may have produced this brand of tool (Belknap Hardware & Mfg. Co.). I do plan on using it as a temp tool in one of my WWII General Mechanic Tool Kits!

Zane,

Although Belknap had its own store (and later, a few of them), they were a catalog wholesaler, like E.C. Simmons and in some respects, like Sears & Roebuck. Unlike Sears & Roebuck, they made some things in-house, but not the hand tools. Note that it has no forged-in markings except the size, and the brand is stamped, which is a contract/third-party production tell. My guess would be Barcalo. Woody's link probably lists other OEMs.

I am pretty sure I have a 10-inch RIDGID, Erie, or WALCO for an early MVMTS edition of the WWII GMTK. I'd let it go cheap. PM me if you're interested.

I’m pretty sure that it wasn’t sourced from Barcalo. Barcalo stillson pipe wrenches greatly resemble Plomb pipe wrenches.

I'll take your word for it, Don. That style all look the same to me. Apparently the OEM for Plomb was J.P. Danielson after 1947. I don't know who it was prior to that. Utica?

The symbol is often seen on Worth tools. The shape looks like a Worth wrench also.
That's interesting and good to know, 3bay. I have an adjustable wrench with only that symbol on it. I've been wondering about it.

I've never been able to figure that out but it's pretty obvious that the Plomb and my Barcalo pipe wrenches were made by the same manufacturer.

I know very little about this but I wanted to post pic.
Belknap Hardware Company was a giant in the world of tool and hardware wholesalers.
Their "Blue Grass" and "Crusader" private-label brands are still ubiquitous in the second-hand market.

Blue / Blue Grass / see Belknap Hardware /

Crusader / see Belknap Hardware / at least one known example manufactured by Barcalo see https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=8321274#post8321274 /

Belknap / Belknap Hardware & Mfg. Co., Louisville, KY / "Blue Grass" "Crusader" / http://www.hangoutstorage.com/banjo...rchived/files/belknap-history-54179132014.pdf / http://www.collectors-of-schrades-r.us/belknap/ /

You need to download a copy of the list.
(Follow the link on that first post to download the most recent update.)

and here's the only dope I have on "FINN":
Finn / Finn Tool Co., Springfield, IL / wrench / patent 2657606 Nov 3 1953 Kenneth F. Finn / https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/threads/finn-tool-co-springfield-ill.495561/ /
