If anyone can identify this tool it would be you guys. I see it every year at a swapmeet I go to, no one has figured it out yet.

If that patent date is Dec 2, 1868, that might just be a Canadian single or double brace saw stretcher.

Datamp doesn't have an image, so if that's what it turns out to be, you could share yours.

I dont know how it would be used as a sawbuck like mentioned. When I first saw it, I was immediately thinking something like a wire fence or barb wire stretcher. ( I have never seen or used one by the way) just looks like it would be used for something like that. I used google image search and came up with this.

Hmmm...

And trying to search for this patent

In google patents

lemoine ca quebec fire

Produces two patents from 2017 and 2022

Oh well, since it's not a saw stretcher, I am giving up now.

If that patent date is Dec 2, 1868
I see Dec 25 8

how does this one look? the only fence stretcher on Dec 25

ETA: not in DATAMP

on Google Patents

Used the wildcard search on DATAMP, and yes, Dec 25 was a valid date until 1894

Not sure what's wrong with my eyeballs this morning... that's not the only one I got mixed up on. Thanks.

Well done guys, definitely wire fence stretcher, looks like it lost one of its springs along the way.
Hopefully it won't have sold by the time the swapmeet comes around next Aug.
Thanks all.
