So this was given to me today and I can't find a company stamp or any markings on it. What is it?

It's sitting in my car trunk right now so I haven't had a good chance to mess around with it. Seems like there's a little bit of play in the movable jaw. It was originally red, you can see the original color underneath.

I'm going to take it home and clean it up. If it's not a good one then I'll just use it as a test bed to clean up and paint and then I'll resell it.

What makes you think it's worth the effort to clean & repaint it? :D

It could be made by York. I have a couple of these in my scrap skip at the moment, what size are the jaws? Is there a cast number anywhere?
I don't see any markings anywhere on it.

I'd like to clean and repaint it just to say I did it, haha. I don't really care if there's no monetary value there, I'd just put it up for sale to give someone a deal who could use a vise and not be able to spend much.

Good for you. I spent a whole day refurbishing an old ball pein hammer just for fun. Shot blast, sanding down the grades and then polish. Its not worth anything, just a wee project for the day. I hope you didn't think I was being a tool snob when I said they were in the skip, they are just too small for what I need day to day. That and they are seized solid.

If there is a roll pin through the front most jaw to hold the spinny handle (I don't know what else to call it) I can ID it as a Taiwan make. I will need to wire brush some of the rust off to see the maker on my one. I only remember it because if you over tighten it with a cheater the pin snaps off inside and you need to hammer it out with a punch!
