Nail plates ... where to put them?

Wiring the new garage/race shop. I've drilled holes in the 2x6 studs to pass the Romex through for the wiring.

I know I have to have nail plates where ever a hole is to protect the wires from nails. Is the nail plate required regardless of how deep the hole is into the stud? I can see if the hole is close to the edge of the stud a nail plate would obviously be required. But what if the hold is in the middle of the 2x6?

They go vertically, put them everywhere just in case you decide to anchor something with long screws

If less than 1.25 inches from face if stud to hole, than it is required to be plated.

if memory serves, anywhere the wire is less than 1 1/4 in from the finished surface you need a nail plate.

I should have asked before I drilled the holes, pulled the wire, and hooked up the receptacles and switches!

I have 1.5" x 2.5" plates. Are presume they are long enough.

This is what the 2010 code requires. I put a plate over every wire just in case. They are a lot cheaper and easier to install then it is to open up a wall and repair damaged wire.
