I can’t seem to find a nailing schedule for laminating a triple 2x12 header in codes. This is for a truss connection spanning 8’.

Does anyone know an acceptable pattern and what nails to use? 30d? Or 16d from both sides? I’ve seen people say diagonal 6” apart others say 3/4 rows with x spacing, etc.

Thanks!

My mezzanine is 2x12 doubled every other. It is nailed 16" o.c. w 3 vertical 16d. For 3, I'd think from both sides would adequate. This carpenter didn't use adhesive, just nails.

Is this project being inspected? If so, you should consider inquiring with their office. Whatever you learn by asking us won’t mean much to some grouchy guy that doesn’t like your pattern.
I had to laminate two 2x10s and the inspector gave me a choice of 16d nails or structural rated screws. The ceiling joist bay gave me only about 13 inches to swing a hammer ☹️ so I went with Simpson structural screws. The heads bear ID marking. Don’t use deck screws. Zig zag pattern. It passed.
