That was my plan and how I've done it in the past, but there will only be 4 nails securing each piece to the wall then (one board covers 4 horizontal girts) since the spacing is 24" OC. I'm used to 16" OC or solid sheathing where there can be lots more nails.Face nail the first two rows then through the tongue at and angle until you can't and face nail the remaining rows. Don't know if that's the correct way but that's how I've done it with beadboard on ceilings.
I'm hoping that the tounge and groove will hold it together and stiffen it up enough. Every 7' or so horizontally it will be fastened to a 6x6 post also so that should help I'd think?I believe I would put in more horizontal girts for a 12" OC. 16" OC probably would be okay but now not an option.
Otherwise, the 24" span will allow bowing between the nailed spots.
I'm not a builder or expert by any means. Just my thoughts.
