Picked up some 6” T&G red pine for my interior walls. I have horizontal girts/framing every 24” in the pole barn.

Would you nail it in place with one nail in the groove or face nail it with two nails per horizontal girt?

Any finish recommendations to bring out the spalted colors? IMG_1825.jpegIMG_1826.jpegIMG_1109.jpeg

Face nail the first two rows then through the tongue at and angle until you can't and face nail the remaining rows. Don't know if that's the correct way but that's how I've done it with beadboard on ceilings.

That was my plan and how I've done it in the past, but there will only be 4 nails securing each piece to the wall then (one board covers 4 horizontal girts) since the spacing is 24" OC. I'm used to 16" OC or solid sheathing where there can be lots more nails.

I will be hanging things off of the paneling so I want to make sure they aren't going anywhere.

I believe I would put in more horizontal girts for a 12" OC. 16" OC probably would be okay but now not an option.

Otherwise, the 24" span will allow bowing between the nailed spots.

I'm not a builder or expert by any means. Just my thoughts.
I'm hoping that the tounge and groove will hold it together and stiffen it up enough. Every 7' or so horizontally it will be fastened to a 6x6 post also so that should help I'd think?

I'm putting one facenail for the wall but I'm on 36 inch stud spacing. I'm using a framing nailer too. .113 inch by 2 3/8inch ring shanked nail. I don't want the boards to come down. I wanted the look of an old granary and nails were exposed. I should be putting 2 nails in each board but decided one is enough. I can tell you though that even with that you can punch the board through the nailhead with enough pressure. Nail will break if trying to remove it. Ringshanked nails are more brittle. I used some small finish nails in my sunroom for carsiding and it's holding up fine but I don't plan on holding anything on the walls or ceiling either. You can see my thread on my carsiding and see if you like the look. I just don't think going into the tongue with a finish nail will give you the strength you're looking for but who knows? Nail one up and pull on it. It may change your mind.
