I have the opportunity to acquire a vise, but the seller doesn't know what it is. She says it only has a "6" on it, nothing else stamped, which makes me a little leery.

Any sage vise gurus out there who know what it is? These are the highest resolution photos I have...sorry!

Thanks,

-Lombie

That's what I was thinking. The seller is not close, or I'd swing by and check it out in person. I've asked her if she can send higher resolution photos.

If she does, I'll post them. Hopefully straight and level next time.

I was ready to christen it "Bruce Lee" but the photos are too tiny for me to make out anything. Sorry.

Larger photos came through...still don't see how to rotate them out, though. They're level on my end...

I presume we can proceed with the christening?

Thanks again, all. The vise hunt continues...

Like others have said, it doesn't look like any U.S. made vise I've ever seen.
"Bruce Lee" it is.

looks like a good old import. how much is she asking for it? sure looks like it would do the job of a vise if cheap enough and you can't find any old US ones around. for $20-30 i'd buy it if I didn't own a vise and use it until I found the vise I really wanted. then sell it probably for the same amount and all you are out is a little gas.

She's asking $100, but probably searched blindly on eBay and has no idea what it's really worth.

I'm looking for something US-made for my bench, so this won't work for me at any price.

If she sells it for $100 tell her to please get me in touch with the buyer. I have bridge for sale they might be interested in:eyecrazy:.

Agree with all. New price probably under $50. chromed screw and handle a dead giveaway. If a Harbor Freight vise would do for now, send her an HF catalog page, ask to negotiate. (include Mighty 25% Offf Coupon!)

Get it for $20 -$30, probably worth it. Bear in mind, scrap value is about $4

(unless you find an idiot like me who paid $25 for a broken vise just because he couldn't bear to chop up a usable one for a certain project for BIL birthday present, MHRIH).
