I picked two pair of these wierd pliers at an estatae sale today. Mainly because they were SnapOn's but also because I've never seen them before and what the heck, the guy thought so much of them he had two. Anyways, they're basic channellocks but top jaw has a slot cut-out right down the centerline. The lower jaw has a raised metal piece that when closed fits right into the upper jaws cut-out slot. Does anyone know what these pliers are used for?

Sounds like some sort of criming plier.

1. Find pliers. Write down part number.
2. Go to snap-on.com
5. Enter part number in search field.

Does it look like some visegrips look, with the notch in the top and the bump in the bottom?

Might be sheetmetal workers crimping pliers, used to crimp the ends of stove pipe etc to allow one piece to slip inside the other for a tight joint.

Sorry, no pic available. I must have left my Escape unlocked because I'm missing my sunglasses AND the clip that holds them to the visor AND my digital camera is also missing from the center cosole under the armrest. The slot in the upper jaw runs from the tip of the jaw about 1 1/2 inches straight back. The top jaw has gripping grooves across its face just like normal channel locks but the bottom jaw with the triangular tooth is smooth. Written on the pliers is the following: Snap-on, Vacuum Grip, 9-CB, U.S.A., 5.
