it's a instrument panel screw remover for a Chinese PLA (People's Liberation Army) tank ... how asinine is that ... the words "instrument" and "Chinese" used in the same sentence.

The taper looks like it may fit into a spindle to take the place of a ball joint for leverage or something. Maybe they are better at catching coil springs in China?

Funny you should mention a ball joint taper, I noticed the same thing but failed to mention it figuring I am way off base. I guess that makes two of us!
