Nano stations

I have gotten a pair of the Ubiquiti M5 NanoStations and the suggested AC Pro from my previous "Difficult internet situation" post. A couple questions. Can the receiving M5 be installed in line of sight but inside in a window? Distance is about 90'.
Also, My main internet cable from the street is installed in a 2" Conduit and runs through a christie box about 5' from the house. It is shielded cable. I notice that in the change of direction loop in the christie box the wire is kinked a bit. Will that degrade the signal to the system?

Ubiquiti sells window mounts for these devices, but I think you're going to have trouble getting the 5ghz band reliably through windows. I don't think I saw your other thread, but I would have recommended two M2 Loco devices for these reasons:
- They're cheaper than M5 NanoStations ($50 vs $90)
- The 2.4ghz band is more reliable in weather, through trees, and especially through building materials
- The lesser bandwidth is usually not a factor for a residential property. The M2 Loco devices can do about 150Mbps, which is enough for almost anything.

The M5 devices you have will work fine if you put them on the outside of the buildings and run an ethernet cable through the wall. Ubiquiti recommends shielded twisted pair to avoid EMI; I've had good luck with my unshielded twisted pair for more than a year.

It's difficult to answer your second question without knowing what type of cable it is (fiber, cat 5/6, cable) and hooking a network analyzer up. I wouldn't worry about it but you should be able to access your modem's status page and check signal strength and uncorrectable errors.
