Anyone own these Carlyle combo wrenches? They kinda look like Snap On FDP wrenches. Wondered what kind of quality these were and the opinion someone had on these.

There have been a few threads about carlyle tools mainly from this summer when they first came out. Unfortunately the threads turned absurb in part by the COO nazis on this board

I have a couple sets of wrenches, sockets ratchets etc and so for they seem to be well made tools. I personally just gave up having any sort of intelligent conversation with all of the "commentary"

To be fair... I don't recall any Coo bashing, only members getting there ******* In a bunch over some of the Price point comments. Everyone is entitled to there opinion... It seems the people that have purchased the products have had nothing but good things to say. Just because I feel there are better options from a monetary standpoint doesn't mean I'm a "Coo Nazi". Whatever happened to the concealer guy who bought a slug of the line?

Pm sent...

To the OP-

Perhaps they'll have some good sales around the holidays, that is yet to be seen.

Napa is having a tool sale beginning November 12. Carlyle brand tools will be on sale as well as many other lines they carry (Well at least the Napa I deal with)

I bought a 10, 13, and 15mm to try out when they first appeared. I like them. They have excellent fit and finish with good balance. The problem I have is that I have waaay too many wrenches to absorb another full set.

Are these tools optional? No Napa here has them. I talked to the manager and he did not know anything about them. They are still stocking the Everlast ones.

That is the problem, i was big on them at first(bought a ratchet, and a set of wrenches) and our NAPA rep was really pushing them, they are very good quality. But stores are not stocking the full line, or like in your case, none at all. I dont think they will be around long. NAPA seems like they are not sure if they want to sell this line of tools, or maybe they are just not good at launching a new product...?????

I started with a 3/8-1" set out of the real deals sales flyer.I then happened to walk into a different Napa on tool sale day of all days and they had just started stocking the Carlyle line.Ended up finishing the standard set from 1/4-1 and getting metric from 7-24mm. They seem to be good wrenches, seem to be using them more than the C-man pro's now.Used them on a 40 year old rusty truck and didn't round any bolts off or slip off of any nuts.I would recommend them but purchased them at a reduced price so they were quite a bit cheaper than list price.

My Local napa stocks some of the carlyle line. According to the manager there, the carlyle brand sells ok but the evercraft sells better.

This lesson here is that the vast majority of tool buyers opt for a lesser priced tool. From professionals to the weekend wrench turner, lesser priced tools are what really moves off the shelves. My snappy guy says the same thing. The snappy tool boxes sells well but the volume hand tool sales is in blue point, ez red, gearwrench, etc brands

I'm still using the hell out of all of it without a single failure to date.

Just been busy working at my day job and then using the hell out of my tools in the evenings.

Annnnddd.... i needed a break from the COO arguments to clear my head.

My sort of local Napa carry's more tools then the closest Sears, with the exception of boxes. And what they dont have they can get in 1-2 days and deliver it. All depends on the store.

I dont have any of the new stuff yet, I'm sure I'll end up with some torx bit sockets sooner or later though.

I have a full set of the earlier NAPA wrenches in SAE and Metric (made by Danaher) in my Jeep and I just bought a set of the new Carlyle wrenches in SAE and Metric for my son to keep in his Jeep for a birthday present a couple of months ago.

My first impression was they did look alot like the Snap-On finish but after using them a few times now helping my son on a few projects I think they are a pretty good wrench for the money. I didn't think they were too badly priced either but I get a pretty good deal from my local NAPA store.

I don't know how they would hold up if using them day in and day out spinning wrenches for a living but they seem to be a good set to have in a vehicle for a reliable set when needed.

Mike.

I built the vast majority of this car using a bunch of Carlyle tools. (The rest mostly Gearwrench.)

Good enough for me!

Acquired these many many moons ago - back when they were US made. Note the forging similarity between the Allen and the NAPA flare wrenches. The lettering is different, but the forging appears identical. FWIW they have all held up quite well.

Before the Carlyle & rebadged Gearwrench stuff, Danaher supplied them with Allen/Craftsman/K-D clone tools marked Napa. Previous to that was Easco & New britan, not sure on the time lines on those.

You do realize the engine is turned 90 degrees the wrong way and it is missing two cylinders :D

I've been buying Carlyle sockets lately to fill in the gaps on some of socket sets. Using them daily and no issues.

Currently my NAPA stores in Charlotte NC leave a lot to be desired at the moment with what little of the Carlyle stuff they have in stock. I've been ordering mine directly online and having them shipped to my house. My local stores are not giving me any incentives to to spend my money locally with them.

I went to a local store with about a $500 shopping list, and the price was the exact same right down to the penny as if I would just order online myself. In all fairness though the person I was dealing with behind the counter was just a cashier with no power to wheel and deal.

I will be getting some wrenches soon.......

It also seems to suspiciously be missing pushrods as well. And the motor isn't made in America AHHHHHH!!!!!!! :spit:

It's an SCCA Solo SMF-class car that i'm trying to wrap up. Big power isn't the name of the game here. (Though the final iteration of this little 2.5 litre motor should still make about 325whp n/a. :rocker:)
