I saw the Napa flier today, and they are having 5 quarts of their Napa brand full synthetic oil and a Napa Gold oil filter for $21. My Focus is about due for a PM, so I went there today and bought oil/filter. Rang up to only 19 with tax for some reason. I'd rather have a 5 quart jug, but they gave me 5 individual quarts. Oh well.

Also, a lot of tools are on sale. 7 piece ratcheting wrench sets for $16. Lots of other stuff too.

Sounds like the 20% off 3 or more items stacked when they rang you out hence the $19 and change total.

I thought they were some controversy about the new label of calling oil full synthetic or blend synthetic. And that most blend synthetic are being labeled as full synthetic.. No???

That was almost 20 years ago now and was a debate of advertisement. It was actually started by Castrol as they were using Group III base stocks where only Group IV were technically seen as "synthetic" since one comes out of the ground and is highly processed and the other is made in a lab. The BBB agreed with Castrol that Group III could also be called synthetic and the rest is history as every major oil company has embraced this giving us cheap "synthetics". As long as the quality is there (and it is) it doesn't really matter.

So some will say I'm a pauper and others will say I'm a horrible, dishonest person, but if you're at your NAPA store and have an online account, dig through the trash can in front of the store for any receipts you can find.

Online there's an easy way to enter a claim code at the bottom of each receipt (unless the customer placed their order online for in-store p/u) that you can enter to get those points on your account.

It's not difficult to hit the $5 rewards....

Not worth 5 bucks to go dumpster diving I would rather pay full price.

:wtf: Have you ever seen what people throw in trash cans at the front of a NAPA store???

TIP! WEAR LATEX GLOVES before you dig through trash cans at NAPA because I have seen some guys toss out their "dip cups" into the NAPA trash cans as soon as they get out of their trucks.

Anyone have issues with them not carrying a platinum filter for their car? I tried this promo today and they do not have a platinum for my car but do have the gold. The gold was $22 and they would not substitute for me. Best they would do was the 20% off the price of the gold.

Like I said above Platinums aren't available for everything. They should substitute it. That's what my corporate store would do. Their retail filter prices are a joke, even more so since Wix went China. Many of them are just a performance match for OE at 3-4-or 5x the cost. There is huge mark-up on them. I've had parts stores like that and I just don't give them business.

If you have AAP/CARQUEST see if there is an M1 filter available. With the rebate you can get the oil and a US made high quality filter for ~$19.

I tried 2 different stores and neither one would match the gold for the platinum price. I just ended up getting 2 filters for my wifes car and 2 for my truck. I guess Ill just order the oem Mann filter from RockAuto for $9 when I get a few more items in the cart I need. I checked AAP and they do carry the mobil 1 filter but its $16.99.

I had the same problem. Wouldn't even give me 20% off. I made a complaint on the website and the district manager called me. He said they are supposed to price match and I could take my receipt back to refund the difference. I told him $3 wasn't worth my time, I would just buy my oil at Advance Auto in the future.

They gave me some sob story about them loosing money if they price matched the gold to the platinum sale price. The platinums for my wifes car and my truck were only $11.99 at full price where as the gold for my car was $22.99. Oh well, Ill just continue to use RockAuto!

I was able to buy raybestos rotors for a good bit less with shipping, than from Amazon with free shipping.

Used to be a big Napa guy, but slowly drifting away. Ran Napa Gold/Wix filters on everything, including the tractors, combine and semi's. After pricing a few filters during the filter sale, I decided to price check some Baldwin filters online, having used Baldwin's randomly in the past and been satisfied. Come to find that Baldwin's delivered to my door are half the price of the Napa Gold's. And delivery has been 2-3 days.

I've had two out of two horrible experiences with rock auto. In one case the part i bought was 1/2" longer than the original, so it wouldn't fit, and it took probably a dozen calls to get it resolved. They'd just keep "closing my case". I'd drive several hours and pay more to get a part before I'd ever, ever buy from rock auto again. Cable companies generally get a bad rep, but even getting to a live human at rock auto was 10x harder. Then, that they would refuse to help address a part that pictures proved was the wrong size, was incomprehensible to me. For your sake, don't buy from Rock Auto!!

Yes but with the M1 rebate if you buy oil and filter (still $36 for both @ AAP/Carquest) you get $17 back.

How does Rock Auto compete with their ridiculous shipping cost?

I'm in Canada. Although I work in a shop and should get great local wholesale discounts that rarely happens. For customer cars we order from a local parts supplier(most often Napa), for our own personal cars if we can wait a 3-14 days for parts my buddies and I will often order from RockAuto. Even with the shipping charges it's a big savings for us.

Stuff like a body patch panel, $75 shipped from Rock, $200 locally. Just Another Canada tax.

I generally compare Rockauto prices with NAPA (on line purchase with pick-up in store) and Amazon (using Amazon Prime Free Shipping). Rockauto often beats on price paying for standard shipping - sometimes significantly. They do a good job handling core returns while Amazon doesn't mess with that and their prices reflect it. NAPA is usually the highest but I only get a 10% discount - I will do it if I can't wait for shipping.

If you have a choice of brands for a part at Rockauto, sometimes you can reduce shipping costs by selecting items that will ship out of the same warehouse. This is easy to determine on their website. Also, I love the ease of finding the correct part on their website catalog and it is pretty accurate. Selection is good, too. Regarding shipping time, however, Rockauto generally takes longer....2-5 days vs Amazon at 1-2 days and sometimes that is a deciding factor. You can pay for expedited shipping but it adds up quickly.

they compete because after their "ridiculous shipping costs" they are normally still less money than amazon or local brick & motars.

:+1::+1::+1:, especially if its not a must have right away part. Plus you also have 5% discount code for rockauto.

Check out Summit Racing, they have and can access lots of parts that aren't listed in the online catalog, enter the part number in the search bar if you have one,or call. I get Toyota Camry, Lexus, GM truck and hot rod parts all the time, pretty much weekly actually.

They are also very easy to price match if you have the online address/add. I saved $200+ on a QuickTime bell housing price matching and over $100 on some Wilwood brakes.
Free shipping on $100 orders, and they always have coupon codes for $200 and up.

I use Amazon Prime sometimes for small stuff, but Summit almost always ships to me overnight.

I gave up on Rock Auto, Warehouse "B" and warehouse F, Z....$$

FWIW, your experience was very, very unusual. Have never heard another complaint about RA. It's easy to get a live person, just call their customer service number.

They do have a low tolerance for questionable activities, so if there was something questionable about your purchase that might be why they are less willing to help.

They do on rare occasions have errors in their listings because the manufacturer has listed the part applications incorrectly, but a quick phone call to explain gets you a prepaid return mailer and a refund or replacement.

SOMETIMES - AA is usually about half the cost of anywhere else after SP and coupons, Amazon warehouse deals are often very good prices, IF they have what you need in warehouse stock. RA with shipping is often around the regular price for the local stores.

RA's shipping prices represent true cost to ship - they are not high, they just seem higher because other sellers are including part of the shipping cost in the part cost.

Anybody looking for a medium sized portable battery charger, these are a good deal at $65 if you can find one. All Napa battery chargers are in the Real Deals, and this one is an older model. I found in one of our smaller Napa stores, they had hiding on the shelf behind the newer more expensive model.

So far charged two batteries with it, like the automatic features like going into float/maintain mode once charged. And when charging, gives you an estimated percent of charge to give you an idea on time. Much better than the old Die Hard portable it is replacing.

Hahahaha. Unless it's changed, i believe when you call the message actually says "we don't take phone calls, please see the info on our website."

As sad and frustrating as it was, these guys made Cable customer service look 5-star.

Just to warn others.

I've never encountered that, every time I have called in the last decade or so I get a live person immediately. Are you calling the right number? They ask you to call 1-608-661-1376 for customer service.

It's not helpful to speculate or make inaccurate statements.
