Noticed these in the Napa (Canada) flyer today. At first I thought Knipex was the OEM but then the price made me wonder if they are Chinese knock off? $30 for 12" water pump pliers? Napa is usually expensive. Did knipex's patents expire? Anybody buy some? Some Ultra Pro stuff crosses over to the Carlyle line in the US. Have these surfaced in the states? Any thoughts?ImageUploadedByTapatalk1397870046.958553.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1397870075.943420.jpg

No, they're Chinese/Taiwanese pliers. The jaws are very Irwin-like.

That's kind of what I thought, but I've never seen an "alligator" adjustment on anything other than knipex. Maybe it's just different enough to skirt the patent ? Dunno.

Irwin has their own too so that may be where these originate...

Yes Mac and Matcos relabeled knipex still have the knipex logo or name on them from many of the ones I have seen.

Since when were channellock type pliers ever colloquially called "water pump pliers"? I thought the accepted term was slip joint pliers...

technically channellock pliers are considered arc joint pliers because of the curved male and female joints. Water pump pliers lack the curved joint and have a pin that adjust sizes through a set of notches.
Slip joint pliers are regular straight pliers with a pin and notch sizes adjustment.
