I picked up a NAPA full polished, 1/2" drive long handle ratchet today and when I got home I realized that the head has a crack between the pawl switch and the quick release.
I thought it was just the chrome, but you can see it open when you put a lot of torque on it.

Will NAPA warranty the ratchet without a receipt ?

Yes they will.

I have warrantied a ratchet and a deep socket without a receipt. Both stores I went to were very good about it.

The only thing about the ratchet was that they had to order it. Took a week to come in...:)

They should but, some NAPA stores are better to deal with than others. Let us know how it turns out for you.

That's the only thing I have never cared for with NAPA, how their service can change from one store to the next. I know it is because they are franchises. But I do prefer doing business with them versus the others.

That is good news to hear. Thanks guys

I'm going to take it to NAPA on Monday and I will let you guys know how everything goes.

This must have been one hell of a good ratchet. I took it apart and it has deep grooves on the inside, where the main gear has been forced into the body of the ratchet.
Looks like the gear climbed on top of the pawl. Ive never seen a ratchet do this before.
I thought the pawl or main gear would sheer way before it would break the case.

You guys ever seen anything like this before?? If so waht is the cause?

I took it to NAPA today and they swapped it out, no questions asked. It was by far the quickest and easiest warranty exchange Ive ever done.

Now Ive got a brand new 1/2" drive, long handle ratchet for $15 + maybe $3 in gas.

NAPA gets an A+ from me!

That one has me somewhat stumped, having taken apart hundreds of ratchets,I have never seen that type of abuse.

Napa will take back their own and give you a replacement. Not sure about some of their tools; I needed a stud remover set and even though I bought it at napa it is not marked with any name,so that might present problems in the future.

I work at a NAPA, some managers can be pricks, but lifetime warranty tools don't
need a receipt. I fixed my long craftsman rachet with a Napa repair kit.
