theres a napa near me that has the new carlyle line, but they also have alot leftover of the old napa hand tool line, is it worth buying a few items? i was thinking wrenches, sockets. A buddy of mine works there and can get me the tools cheaper with his employee discount.

i got a catalog for teh carlyle stuff the other day. i'm really interested in them taking the place of the craftsman stuff for me. lifetime warranty and about 10 miles from the house. they give me a decent deal, too. they seem like a decent tool for a decent price and warranty items are very easy for me.

i've got a few old napa u.s.a. wrenches that are very good quality. they remind me o fthe current allen stuff.

The NOS "Napa" branded tools were mostly USA made, the new Carlyle stuff is Taiwan/China made, but is of excellent quality. Then there is their Evercraft brand tools, which are good quality, but nothing to brag about. One thing that I know as a fact, the Evercraft torque wrenches are the exact same as the HF ones, except $60 vs $10. D your research before buying anything.

But to answer your question- if they are a good deal, or on sale, or something you need...... Buy them, they are great tools. I have a NAPA brand tap and die set (USA made), and they are excellent quality.

Evercraft flare nut crows foot wrenches are awesome for the money. I have no experience with anything else from them.

I picked up alot of the old line at Napa when they went to the Carlyle line.It was all 70% off or I wouldn't of bought it.Other than a nicer finish its about the same as Craftsman. The only positive is that I'm in pretty good with the local Napa so warranty is never an issue. My Napa really didn't have alot of tool sales so they mostly still had the older USA line of tools.Keep in mind for awhile they had a Taiwan line of mostly rebranded GearWrench tools which are good quality as well, before they went to Carlyle.I picked up a few deep well socket sets, impact sockets,2 ratchets, and some hex and torx sets.Just the fact if something does break now one item in your set will be Carlyle and won't match...if that bugs you.

I bought two pair of NAPA branded pliers at 70% off. They were 10 inch slip joint pliers made by Wilde. Very nice pliers.

NAPA had some screwdrivers under their old line that were blue and yellow handled and made in Germany. If you can get those for 70% off, I think that would be a great deal. Harder to find would be their next generation ratchet. It was NAPA's version of the craftsman thin profile 60 tooth ratchet but, with a round tapered handle. It was only available in 1/4 and 3/8 drive.
The remainder of the old NAPA line was basically rebadged Danaher made KD, ALLEN, and Craftsman.
I'd stay away from the dark blue handled screwdrivers though, their blades are like butter.

Yes.

I bought several made in USA 1/2" NAPA breaker bars for pennies on the dollar when they did the swap last summer.

Still the same lifetime warranty.

$200 1/4" service set was $50.

See what he has. Napa did a mash up of USA,.Taiwan and Chinese made tools that are now mainly Taiwanese and Chinese via carlyse so look closely.

The NOS NAPA USA and Taiwan stuff I have no complaints about. At all.

:)
