hello every one. just built a 30x40 shop 12foot ciling with 2x4 walls i can get a 50,000 btu furnace free. this is pushing the limits on size. if i keep temp at 55 or 60 think i can get by. thanks

It's undersized quite a bit for that much square footage and 12' ceilings
A 75K BTU will be the proper size for your building. I have a 45K in my 26' x 30' with 8' 10" ceiling and it's just right, see it here: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=140674&highlight=26'+30'+Garage+photos+videos

A lot depends on where you live ? If you are not in the colder climate , you may be ok .

I am heating a very well insulated ~ 1,000 sq foot garage with 14'-15' ceiling with a 45k heater. It maintains 50 (so long as the ceiling fan is running) with no issues and in an hour I can get up to 60-65 depending on outside temp. I am north of Chicago to give you an idea of the climate.

He said it was a 50,000 btu furnace . is it an old 50 % or an 80 % or a newer 90 + % , This also makes a difference.

the bldg. will have blowen in insl. the heater vents thru plastic not sure of efficenty. i live in missouri. thanks

Congrats on recent garage build, and welcome to GJ.

Best and quickest way to get best advice is lots of info. This a hanging 80% Natural gas or Propane heater?? What brand??

Or is this a small house forced air furnace??

Then it will be big enough , It will run a long time to heat but that's what you want. Not the on and off short cycling
You will get much more even heating with it running longer.

Pic's aren't necessary . you have a high eff furnace , it could be a 91 % or higher either way your good.
