Hello all, I just joined the forum today. I can't seem to find a thread for my question so I'll just ask. Ok I have a 26 x 32 garage that I rarely put a vehicle in except for my Harley! but mostly entertain in now due to a patio thats connected to it. I wanted to put down Racedeck but its out of my budget with 5 teenagers at home. The floor is 15 years old, no chips, just some mild oil stains and a few mild cracks..ect ect. Whats your thoughts on sanding the floor with a floor sander just to get all of the stains out, and make it look like new again right? Then I thought maybe the next process would be to put down a coat of sealer..then take the flakes that come with epoxy sealers and just broadcast them into the sealer, followed by more coats of sealer. You'd have your natural color cement color with chips in it. Would this work?? It was just a thought. I'd appreciate all the info I can get.

Now some concrete looks fine just sealed, but more often than not it looks blotchy, so I'd consider using an acid stain, then flakes and a sealer. The acid will bring a bit of color to the concrete, and mask blemishes and unevenness. To get maximum performance from the sealer it's a good idea to acid etch the floor anyway, an acid stain is a mild acid etch, with the benefit of the tinting thrown in.
We do a sealer that works great for your application, AcryliSeal 3501. We believe AcryliSeal 3501 is the best water based acrylic sealer available. Wolverine Coatings was the first company in the world to commercialize this new type of Acrylic technology. To date we are still not aware of any other company that offers this type of novel technology. It’s slightly more expensive than the standard water based products, but it has a HUGE performance increase. AcryliSeal 3501 will give better darkening than the standard water based acrylic sealers but not quite as much darkening as solvent based sealers. But unlike solvent based products AcryliSeal 3501 is environmentally “green,” with no volatile organic compounds. The chemical resistance is awesome, not the same level resistance level of our epoxy based systems, but far superior than either other water based or solvent based acrylic currently available. It’s even resistant to chemicals including organic solvents like MEK, Xylene, Toluene, etc. This product is less than 3 years old and we have not heard of a failure to date. So, the durability is much better than either of the typical solvent based or water based acrylics.
After waste is factored in a 5 gallon pail will cover about 1,350 ft2 with one coat, for your situation we recommend at least 2 coats. However the first coat can be cut 50/50 with warm water - it actually helps give a more glossy, "wet look" finish, so your 832 ft2 floor can be coated with a 5 gallon kit, applied in 2 coats.
This won't give you the impact resistance that a resin floor coating will, but it will look sharp and be easier to maintain.
