Natural Gas Heater/Stove

I am looking for a small, freestanding natural gas fired space heater type stove to put in the upstairs office/man room of the shop. I'm thinking about a direct vent unit to make installation out through the sidewall as a vertical install would be more complicated (steel roof).

The room is 15' x 32' with a 7' 6" ceiling (about 500 sg. ft.). Drywalled walls & ceiling with R20 batt insulation. I can add more above the ceiling if I need to in the future but I only want to run it up to about 60-65 degrees. Somerewhere around 15,000 BTU/hr. would be lots from what I can tell.

In getting prices on these - I am in shock with the prices that are being asked for these little guys. I am seeing prices anywhere from $1500 to $2500!! What's up with that?? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Another idea is I have an old Valor unit I took out of my basement when I redid it but it is not a DV and has to vent out through a chimney. Could this be converted to DV??

Thanks,

I only see one unit - a 28,000 BTU/hr. for $949.99 (Drolet SGS Direct Vent Model# DG 05450)

Anybody have any experience with these?? Since I am in Canada (and we don't have any Northern Tool outlets here), might be cost prohibitive to ship it across the border - but I'll certainly look into it.

Seems to be a real shortage of decent retail access to NG stoves up here. Must be because Canucks only burn wood and moose dung!!

Thanks for the suggestion. The Mr. Heater unit may work (although it is not a direct venting unit). I'll have to check with my HVAC buddy to see if we can make a horizontal vent work as it would exit the building directly under the roof eaves and not sure if I am allowed to do that by our local codes. Might have to just hack a hole in the metal roof and go straight up.

Just looking through the Reznor models. It looks to me like the model UDAS is a direct venting unit heater (has both combustion air inlet and outlet flue). Am I reading this right??
