The blue polyethylene tube in the center serves as a raceway for the mizzen sheet.
This is the 5th and final spar.

Also mocked up the mizzen sail to land the penetration through the transom for the boomkin.

Nice job Royce, I have been pretty much off of GJ for a few months due to health issues and lack of web surfing time and I come back to an almost completed boat project.

Once it's done submit a few photos to WoodenBoat magazine for their "launchings" section. I submitted one to them when I finished a 6' rowboat for my at the time 3 year old son, they published it, a cute and proud kid and his boat no doubt helped with their decision. He is nearing 40 now and has a 3 year old son of his own.

Made the penetration for the boomkin and a socket to fasten to the mast partner.

After getting the boomkin fit up, I started on the tiller arm.
It has a mortice and tenon mount with 3 degrees of taper, for a snug joint.
I'll cut a wedge, to retain it.

Cut a keeper wedge for the tiller arm, then mocked up a curved push-pull tiller.
Lastly, cut and glued the tiller laminations together.

Finished the evening with splicing an eye in the lug sheet, tying it to the becket on the block.

I've spliced plenty of 3 strand also, this double braid is new to me.
It was counter intuitive but got there in the end.
Made another eye this morning for the lug sail downhaul and it is getting easier.
Did have a heck of a time getting the triple blocks reeved right, still not sure.

Got the tiller stick cleaned up, now need to decide how to make the swivel joint attachment at the arm.
Also fastened reef cleats to the mizzen boom and downhaul and halyard cleats to the mizzen mast.
Lastly, started making a mast traveler for the lug sail.

Finished up the mast traveller, wrapped it in cord, then spliced the halyard to it.
Also oiled the tiller arm and stick and made a simple lashing set up with some cord, a 1/2" soft rubber washer and a clam cleat.

Worked on the mast gate today.
2 keyed cleats fastened to the partner with a keyed block that retains the mast.
The block will have a bungee to keep it in place.

Finished up both mast partners.
Started on a gadget to hold and maintain rudder angle.
The underside of the tiller stick will have a series of holes that the pin in the saddle will engage, making it adjustable by a few inches.

Finished up the tiller tender and started fitting up spar leather.

Fit up leathers on the mizzen mast and boomkin,
then got a coat of varnish on the mast, boom and boomkin.

More coats of varnish on the mizzen spars.
Leather stitched on the fore mast.
Pulled the rudder to start foil shaping and fiberglass.

First coat of varnish on the yard.
Made final fit up on the lugsail mast and stepped it for the first time.

Finished varnishing the yard and got the first coat on the boom.
Also laid out the grid on the rudder for foil shaping.

Cut and punched the leather for the yard, ready to stitch.
After cutting the first 2 facets on each side of the rudder, laid out the the lines for 4 more facets.
After the facets are cut, it will get rounded.

Made from 3/4"navel brass, soft soldered together.
1/4" SS round bar arms.
They are called spline weights or drafting ducks

yes, the rigging is a big project in it's self.

Fastened the reefing cleats to the boom.
Leathered the yard and ended up tearing an eye out, irritating but will probably hold fine.
Shaped and glassed the rudder.

Another coat of resin on the rudder and 2 layers of bias cloth on the edges.

Last fill coat of resin on the rudder.
Finished the last of the leathering with the boom.
Started on a camcleat mount for the mizzen sheet.
I'm not sure where I want it, so are making it adjustable, for now.

Bungee mast block keeper and other miscellaneous rigging.

Worked on more rigging today and set the foresail for the first time.
This is a huge milestone.
About ready for a sail.
