So I started off just looking to do a quick Epoxy coating on my floor...well that expanded a bit. The project is done, but I'll post before, during and after pics. Probably can't hold a candle to some of the projects on here, but I think it turned alright given the moderate amount spent.

BEFORE.....ick

DURING:

I started with a Pure Metallic epoxy kit- Tears of God basecoat with Tears of God Effects

Tried to use a grinder from home depot and that quickly got nowhere...waste of $100

Rented a shot blaster and that gave me a nice surface profile. I think the shot I got was a little to aggressive, but it was all that they had and I really didn't know any better anyway. I probably achieved a CSP of 4 or 5, which was more than I needed, but there is just very little info on shot blasters out there and trying to compare the actual surface profile to pictures is worthless. The machine was kind of crappy, but once I got it figured out I was sailing through the job.

MORE DURING:

Primer coat going down. We didn't patch nearly the cracks we should have. I figured they'd get filled in, but they don't. Luckily they look reasonably cool in the final product.

PICKING COLORS AND PAINTING...took awhile for me to decide. I am a huge Sherwin Williams fan. The lighter color is their top of the line "Emerald" paint. That stuff goes on like glue. I couldn't get it to drip off the roller if I tried. A while later I ended up doing a second coat of paint on the ceiling right above my boat and I didn't even bother to cover it. The stuff was not going to drip. 18" roller is very key as well.

MORE FINISHED PRODUCT....tight squeeze on a boat and car at the same time, but doable. All in all, I'm pretty happy with it. Especially since it was 99.8% my ideas and labor that went into it. I see a lot of flaws in the floor, but no one else that has been over sees them. They are mostly amazed as they have never seen a garage floor nearly that cool. A TV, hot tub and boat don't hurt either, :)

You have a jacuzzi in your garage!? That's insane, and I really like the floor btw. But where do you keep your tools and do projects now?

Thank you very much. The tools are hidden on shelves behind the curtains. :) I did't have the money or the skills for cabinets, so I thought that was a good alternative.

I like it nice and different. Do you have any problems with the humidity from the tub?

I haven't had any problems, but it's been covered most of the time. The cover doesn't let any moisture out. I haven't used it much yet, but when I've had the cover off the humidity in the garage got up over 70 percent(which happens often anyway). I just turned on a small dehumidifier which brought it down really quickly.

Whenever the humidity gets over 60 percent the boat starts smelling musty, so I try to keep it down around 50. It's only a problem in the summer when the garage is cooler than the outside. In the winter when I'll actually use the tub, I can't see the humidity getting too high as it typically is really low.
