I have been hesitating to start this thread as all the garages on here look so so well and I feel mine will resemble the long lost broke hobo cousin of most of them..I possess neither the talents of most of you good folk when it comes to making things or the finances currently available to spend on renovating this new garage in any other fashion than serviceable, so the idea is to get it a way I can live and work with for as little money as possible
the previous owner had collected up a lot of offcuts of wood so I am going to try recycle as much of that as I can in order to save some money and also...well to reuse it rather than it being binned
anyways here goes, this is my 5th workshop and possibly my smallest one over the past 20 years, currently we live in a 16th century farmhouse on the North Coast of Ireland and my current workshop is the old Georgian farmhouse with one of the floors removed.
long story short, my 3 year old son is starting school in September and we have decided to move from the farm into a house in the town where he will be attending school.
the new house has two small workshops running back to back behind it, only one of them has vehicular access, ( the one furthest away from the house), so my first priority was to cut a large hole between the two of them to gain access to the one closest to the house.
the garage runs approx. 64 feet long, 14 feet wide and 14feet tall on the high side and 12 feet tall on the low side, for the time being I will be concentrating on the one closest to the house.
my plan is to first clear out all the previous owners stuff that was left in it, then build a makeshift dividing wall and bench to divide it into 1/3 / 2/3
the reasoning behind this is that I wish to place a home gym in the 1/3 section closest to the house, and leave the back 2/3 to store my hot rod.
these pictures will give you an idea of what I'm starting with, ( I must note at this point that the whole building is completely on the piss with not a straight side in it), but its already built and appears to be water tight so its what I've got to work with.
cutting the access hole for vehicles, and then starting to remove some of the rafters to give me more headroom, none of them are load bearing, the previous person put them in, I'm guessing with the intention of flooring above them at some point.
final pics will give you some idea of the stuff I am clearing out in order to make the space I need
