NDS Trench Drains

Im trying to decide what i should do for drainage in my garage. I want some kind of trench drain inside each garage door about 18" in from the door. I like the idea of using something like the NDS Pro Series drains for this but i cant seem to find anyone that has used them where they would see vehicle traffic even though they are rated for it.

I don't think they'd stand up to repeated vehicle traffic. Once in a while possibly, but not several times a day year after year. How do you replace it when it breaks?

Have your masons frame up a floor drain pit that you can put a steel grate in instead.

this is what I did on my garage build. I needed a drain that would stand up to forklift traffic. I haven't run the forklift over it yet, but I don't expect any problems.

I am currently installing a NDS pro series trench drain. I believe you can get different grates for it as well , but I am using it in a garage that only sees foot and motorcycle traffic.

I've got the NDS drains at the bottom of my driveway, not the pro but very similar. I drive over them twice a day with my Silverado, no problems. The only complaint I have is that the slot openings for water are narrow, and in the same direction that the water travels, and in my case the water goes over/past the openings in heavy rains. I called NDS for a different grate with openings perpendictular to the water flow and they said no dice. Thus the drains are ineffective some of the time, which puts water in my garage floor.

I bought some of these when I built my shop, but after messing with them I took them back & purchased the Acco trench drains & collection pits. After 8 years of car, truck, tractor & semi traffic no problems, this is 1 product I will buy again if or when I move.

I used to be an engineer for NDS, what do you need to know

the pro series is a very good system. it will handle the vehicle loads very well (if installed to spec) and if you use a steel or cast iron grate it will handle forklifts and jacks

I used the NDS drains, one in front of each door, just like you want. I love them, they work great!

check out zurn, commercial grade. I have them just inside the doors to my garage. that way when i get home from work in the winter months (already dark outside & very cold) I can pull car inside and wash/detail in the comfort of my garage and the drain water just goes into the floor and then outside.

soapy water only, don't want chemicals, waste oil etc. going into the drain unless you have traps or separators.

also found a website that sells both brands zurn & nds with photos.

both have tons of options for grill covers in colors and patterns and various styles of perforation and materials (stainless steel, cast iron, composite etc.)

p.s. when finally get around to paving driveway outside of garage, plan to install a trench in front of slab to catch water heading towards garage doors as well as catch water coming off of roof.

how are your nds drains holding up? Heard some cases of the plastic grate becoming brittle after a few years of sun. I see they have a galvanized metal version now that has the same load rating.

My drains are holding up great. The sun isn't an issue, the drains are inside the garage. Even with the doors open, there isn't much direct sunlight.

I have them across th front of my garage several years now, never an issue
