Neat tap I saw

I will get a pic but saw a neat line tap to a shack the other day, there were 3 service conductors running pole to pole and in the middle this shack and they crimped right on the lines in the middle to feed it. Normally they run back to a pole but did this right in the middle. I happen to notice it due to the method being unusual here.

I still have the manual crimp,or as we call it "pop tool" set up for 1/0,4/0 and #6

Yes, saved me from having to take pic. Looked to have about a 6 connected to it, really short drop 20 ft or so, 45 degrees to the house.

Their official name is an "H tap", and come in set screw and insulation piercing as well as crimp styles

Insulation piercing styles have been around for a long time. Not a real big fan for large loads.
Use H or C type mostly

those are vampire taps
I find it hard to believe that a utility company would use them as they are not very reliable,especially on aluminum overhead conductors.
However H taps or soap bars are a permanent crimped connection .

Mid-span taps are ubiquitous around here. My house is fed from one.

There are a ton of those here. My friends house built about 8yrs ago has one.

Its about the first time I saw one, on a back street and going to a dinky service. On a little old house right in between poles.
