Reed 404 1/2 in unrestored but good condition would be worth in U.S. $$:
$20 - $50 "You ****" price
$51 - $100 Good price
$101-$150 Fair Price
$151 -up Worth what someone is willing to pay if they want it bad enough. This can also vary depending on location as finding a quality American vise in good shape seems to vary in difficulty. I personally wouldn't pay more than $150 for one in good condition but I might be in the minority here as I am a collector/restorer and I already have several swivel jaw vises and several Reed vises.
Now if this vise was completely cleaned, stripped, lubed, painted and reassembled I'm confident an eBay auction with a $1 starting bid and no reserve would bring a final value (including shipping) of $200-$300.
Also, virtually every major vintage vise manufacturer made swivel jaw vises. Prentiss, Parker, American Scale, Athol, Rock Island, Desmond Stephan, Columbian, Hollands, Reed and even Wilton made them at some point to name a few.
Here is a Reed 404 1/2 restored (and used for awhile) by GJ member Crotalusatrox.
