I need a halfway decent vice for around 100 bucks. I've looked on craigslist but haven't found anything. Today I looked at home depot sells irwin 6 inch for 70 bucks, menards has a few, northern catalog has a bunch of different ones, amazon has a few with free shipping, harbor freight has a few and could use a 20% coupon I think, didn't check lowes or fleet farm.

What is a decent vice in that price range, bigger the better. Don't ned it to be able to crush things, just hold firmly. The biggest problem I've seen with these import vices is the swivel mounts.

Unless someone on here has a vise for sale around my price range with shipping what is the best vice in that range? Or are they all made in the same factory and painted different colors?

Definitely stay away from the import vises. Try to find an older wilton on ebay. With a little luck u can snag a 4" vise for around $100

:spit: With a whole hell of a lot of luck you can snag one for $100. Ratted out 3" vises seem to go for over $100. 4" ones start at $100 and then the frenzy begins. At least that's how it has been for the last couple of months.

If you have to have one right away and need to buy new, then I'd get the CM Professional 4-1/2".

It's better then the **** at HF, HD, Lowes that looks like it was cast in some Chinaman's back yard.

But if you can afford to wait you'd be much better off with old American iron.

Lol I must have a whole hell of a lot of luck because I recently won a 5" wilton(snap on rebranded) for $99! the shipping made it a bit more but I still got it for a small fraction of retail. The guy left out some key search words (like Wilton!) so I'm guessing that's why I was the only bidder. I will agree though, with the the exception of very few anomalies, eBay doesn't seem like the place to buy a vise these days. Don't know what it's like in your area but I've browsed various cities on craigslist and have seen a lot of great US made vises of all sizes and brands for less than $100.

Check out the Craftsman Proffessional vise, it's on sale for $108 right now. Check out this link for more info. http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=142872&highlight=craftsman+vise

Thanks, there is also a code for 15 bucks off over 100 so it comes to 93 before taxes with free instore pickup. Might have to get one tomorrow.

I would love to find an old American iron vise but I've looked on craigslist and haven't seen much, and what I did was way out of my price range.

I broke two Harbor Freight vices in a month. The metal they use is extremely porous and looks to be a very low grade iron. Yes I got my money back but it wasn't worth my time due to the hassle.

Current vice is a consumer level Wilton bought at Home Depot. About $80?? Last time I was there they are now branded as Irwins but are identical vices.

I've had the Wilton for about a year now and I haven't broken it yet. Decent vice for the money.

Patience, Grasshopper: a good vise is in your future.

After years of comfort with a Craftsman (USA made) 4" vise, I found this excellent Parker 973 1/2 on eBay at the "buy it now" price of $35 only 10 miles from where I work; drove over at lunchtime and paid cash. The green paint is my bad.

There is hope out there.

Be patient and you can find deals like this. Too far from you but you get the idea. Reed vise.
